Gastonia attorney Craig Collins has been elected to serve as chairman of the Republican Party’s 10th Congressional District.

Collins, the former chairman of the Gaston County Republican Party, will serve in his new role during the 2013-15 term. He replaces Neil Moore, who did not seek re-election.

Collins’ election came during the 10th District’s annual convention Saturday at Lincolnton High School in Lincoln County, and was accompanied by the election of other new officers.

Collins has a history in grassroots politics. He was the county coordinator for U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry’s congressional campaign in 2004, and also worked on past campaigns for U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick and N.C. Sen. Kathy Harrington.

Under Collins’ leadership, the Gaston County GOP reportedly saw increases in volunteer phone calls and door-to-door visits, as well as record fundraising.

“My number one priority from a district standpoint is to assist our county parties in building strong grassroots organizations and effective fundraising operations,” Colllins said in a press release.

Other officers elected Saturday included First Vice Chairman Robin Ramsey of Buncombe County, Second Vice Chairman Jordan Barnes of Rutherford County, Third Vice Chairman Mark Hilton of Catawba County, Treasurer Edward Dunlap of Gaston County, and Secretary Cheryl Every of Polk County.
